Mission Statement
“To make a difference in the lives of all those who enter our doors through improved learning processes, self esteem, self awareness and self advocacy.”
WHAT WE ARE NOT
- Humanistic Consultants is not a factory, nor is it a laboratory.
- The staff is not comprised of hardened drill sergeants or uncaring taskmasters.
- We will not create more work and we will not create more pressure and stress.
- We are not focused on test preparation only.
- We are not creating dependent learners
WHAT WE ARE
- We are experienced therapists and teachers who have assisted students of all ages with myriad backgrounds and various learning needs.
- We are academic coaches who provide a structured routine and exercises to hone the skills of the student.
- We are translators who make the new and difficult material understandable.
- We are students who research the brain and use scientifically proven teaching methods.
- In a place where it is safe to make mistakes, we help the student evaluate his or her own work methods after repeated opportunities to practice.
- Finally, and perhaps most importantly, we are cheerleaders who use positive approaches to support the student in his or her educational journey.
WHY BE POSITIVE?
Self esteem not only makes for a better learning experience but a better learner. We find that a positive approach leads to a student who is open to learning new things, motivated, and able to self advocate. Learning is a gift developed over time and each step in that journey should be celebrated. Students should also be celebrated and should know as much about the process as possible. This leads us to our ultimate goal.
SELF AWARENESS
We at Humanistic Consultants have one goal for each and every student with whom we work: Improving self awareness. It is impossible to completely know oneself, but it is possible to increase the scope of one’s self perception. It has been proven by philosophers, psychoanalysts and poets alike. A student who knows his or her strengths, as well as those areas that need improvement, is much better equipped to learn and to navigate life. A self-aware student will come to understand the value of an education and that they have the ultimate say in how successful their education is.
