Carmela Granata Bernacchio

 

Carmela Granata-Bernacchio, MS, SLP-CCC    has a BA in Education and an MS in Speech/Language Pathology.  She was awarded a Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech Pathology, is a Licensed Teacher, a Licensed Teacher of the Speech/Hearing Handicapped, and is a Licensed Speech/Language Pathologist. . 

In her thirty years in the field she has experience in both mainstream and special educational school settings as a Classroom Teacher, a Resource Room Teacher, Clinical Supervisor of Speech Pathologist Interns.  Carmela provides supervision of special educational programs for both preschool and school aged children and has developed a new NYS approved Special Education Program for preschoolers which promotes inclusion in the typical preschool settings.  This model has also been generalized and used in school-aged programs.  She has owned and directed a successful Early Childhood Center for eight years and is currently the owner and director of Humanistic Consultants, Inc., which has offices in Mineola, and Port Washington, NY. She is also the director of the not for profit organization P.A.C.E., (Parent And Child Education, Inc.) which provides parenting workshops and seminar programs throughout the state.

Carmela is currently the President of the Mineola Chamber of Commerce and volunteers her time to the community. She has developed The Mineola Community Guide, and serves on many Chamber and Village committees that organize community events to promote interaction between the residents and the business community, including the Mineola Centennial Committee, The Taste of Mineola, The Welcoming Committee, and the Mineola Master Plan Committee.  She is also a member of the Hampton Street School Site Based team and helped create the “K Kids” group in that school.

She is past member of the Professional Forensic Group, a member of the Community Advisory Board for Child Abuse Prevention Services, a member of the Advisory Board for the Max Foundation and a Representative of the Council of Early Childhood Recognition.

Office Staff

Edwina Higgins has been part of our staff for many years. She is a key person in insuring that new clients paperwork is in order so that they may start programs. She works in our billing department, handling communications with school districts and answering client related questions for billing and payments.

 Marilyn Diaz is a key member of our staff serving as an Administrative Assistant.  Marilyn assists in processing necessary paperwork with school districts and departments.  She can assist clients in attaining forms they need to submit to their insurance companies and handles  communications with school districts and client  related questions for billing and payments
